Mystic Island is an Amiga action RPG experiment with editor, paint and in-game screenshots. The old archive is kept here for browsing and download.
Archived project, kept for historical interest.
Space Pilot Of Death is also available on Aminet. The video below shows the Amiga OCS/ECS edition without accelerator or memory expansion.
After roughly 20 years in storage, my Amiga 500 was switched on again and the enthusiasm came back. For that anniversary, I wrote this small game as a warm-up and fast joystick test.
The archive includes the assembled game, used and created graphics and sound effects, and source code. The game runs from CLI/WB and can be copied to a bootable floppy disk.
Because several people asked for online hiscores, version 1.01 adds a separate QR code generator. It is an extra program because generating QR codes on old systems is quite slow.
Minimal requirements are an Amiga 500 or another OCS/ECS system with at least 512k CHIP RAM. Memory expansion or an accelerator is not needed.
Recommended display output is PAL@50Hz or NTSC@50Hz. Fixed 60Hz VBL systems will not work. Control is possible by joystick or keyboard using cursor keys and enter.
Graphics are by Arboris, the MOD is unknown. Code parts include Frank Wille's Protracker playroutine and the QRCode code from ricmoo/QRCode.

The player controls a young hero on an island threatened by strange creatures. The project was inspired by Japanese console action RPGs, with real-time combat, story events and a custom Amiga presentation.
Target hardware from the original notes: Amiga with AGA chipset, 68030 or better, Fast RAM and CD-ROM or hard disk.
Mystic Island takes place on an island where strange events have begun to unfold. Every one hundred years, a small settlement is threatened by the appearance of dangerous creatures. Each time, a brave fighter with unusual powers rises from among the people and holds back the monsters. Now another century has passed since the last encounter.
The player takes the role of a 17-year-old boy who sets out to defeat the shadow creatures and uncover the real reasons behind their return. What starts as a simple threat soon turns into something larger, with unexpected twists and events meant to cover a wide emotional range.
The game is not set in a medieval fantasy world or a post-apocalyptic future. Its world is completely separate from Earth, filled with fantastic beings, strange monsters and everyday creatures. Magic exists, but it is not ordinary; technology exists as well, but it is not the whole focus.
Mystic Island was strongly inspired by Japanese console action RPGs, especially in graphics, sound and presentation. Combat is real-time rather than menu-based, and the goal was to create an Amiga game that could stand closer to console action adventures of that era.
